Preparing Your Concrete Floor
Before applying polyurethane concrete floor paint to a new concrete floor proper preparation is crucial to ensure a perfect finish. We don't recommend painting new concrete for a minimum of 12 weeks after being laid, after that time we then recommend to do a water test just simply testing does the concrete absorb the water after around 30mins or does it stay on the surface? If it doesn't soak in then the area will need acid etching or abrading, if the water soaks in then you can move on to the next step.
Start by cleaning the surface thoroughly. Remove any dust, debris, or stains using a brush or hoover and follow up with a cleaning detergent. Allow the floor to dry completely before moving to the next step. If the concrete is bare but not new and has oil / grease these contaminants need removing thoroughly first, this is crucial for the longevity of the floor paint.

Selecting the Right polyurethane concrete floor paint
Choosing the appropriate polyurethane product is essential for the longevity of your floor. We have two types: "Secure floor Standard" and "Secure floor Superior" both are Oil-based polyurethane products that offer a durable finish that enhances the color of the concrete. The main difference is the Superior product has a higher grade resin making it a tougher product with stronger resistance and better for high traffic and industrial areas.

Applying the Pre seal
Sealing the concrete floor is an important step that should not be overlooked. A sealer ensures better adhesion of the polyurethane paint and can help seal the concrete's porous surface. We only recommend to use our Pre seal for best results. Apply it evenly using a roller or brush, working in small sections to avoid drips and puddles. One coat of the sealer is all thats needed.
Allow the sealer to dry completely before proceeding. This usually takes a few hours depending on the temperature of the area. Once dry, inspect the floor for any missed spots or uneven areas.

Topcoat Application Process
Once your floor is primed and ready, it's time to apply the polyurethane. Begin by stirring the polyurethane thoroughly to ensure an even consistency. Using a clean roller with an extension handle, apply a thin coat of polyurethane to the floor in long, even strokes.
Work in small sections to maintain control and ensure an even application. Overlapping each stroke slightly helps prevent lines and streaks. After applying the first coat, allow it to dry completely—typically 24 hours between coats is advised, if the coating is still tacky wait until thoroughly dry before applying the second coat.
Final Touches and Curing
Continue applying additional coats of polyurethane as needed typically two coats are recommended for optimal durability and best adhesion. Allow sufficient drying time between each coat as per the product's instructions. After applying the final coat, let the floor cure properly before placing any vehicles or heavy objects on it.
Curing times can vary but generally range from 48 hours to a week. During this period, avoid walking on or using the floor extensively to ensure the finish sets correctly. Once cured, your concrete floor will have a beautiful, protective finish that enhances both its appearance and durability.
